A lot have been written about the Rizal monument being given the name “Motto Stella” (Guiding Star) by Swiss sculptor Richard Kissling (April 15, 1848 - July 19, 1919), which was actually the second choice next only to ”Al Martyr De Bagumbayan” (To the Martyr of Bagumbayan) design of Carlo Nicoli (Italian 1843-1915).
The tallest Rizal monument which stands 18.61 meters high was built in Siongque Village, Jinjiang City, Fujian Province, southern China in 2006.
Rizal was a direct descendant of a Chinese Trader by the name of Cua Yi Lam who, in1697, at the age of 35 became Domingo Lamco and was actually born in Siongque ("Zhang-Guo" in Mandarin Chinese). The monument was not an exact replica of the one we see in Manila which is around 12.7 meters.
Other Rizal monuments can be found in:
Cherry Hill Township, New Jersey
San Diego, California
Seattle, Washington
Wilhelmsfeld, Germany
Madrid, Spain
Litomerice, Czech Republic
Reforma Avenue in Mexico City, Mexico
